Real World Math Unexpected Events Game

Grades: 3 - 5

Help students see the relevance of math skills. Each player begins with a checking account balance of $100. In turn, each player sees how many spaces to move & picks up an “unexpected event” card. According to the card’s instructions, the player either adds or subtracts an amount from his or her account (e.g. receiving a birthday gift or taking the cat to the vet). The fi rst player to reach the end receives a bonus amount. Players then add up how much money they have in their accounts; the one with the most money wins. The game board comes with 50 unexpected events cards, 20 sheets of a check register (reproducible), & 6 game pieces. For 2-6 players.
