Learn to read is an exciting adventure for all young people.  Research on how children learn to read shows that early readers must be exposed to varied experiences with literature, while incorporating skills practice, or phonics, at the same time.  Phonics is essential for figuring out letter sounds and how to blend or put them together to read unknown words.  Like any skills, it is best learned through practice preferably by reading stories containing words with sounds being taught.
